Launched in November 2002 with the official unveiling of its Xbox videogames console, Microsoft's Xbox Live is an online multiplayer hub where gamers can join forces or assume opposing sides across a wide array of Xbox Live-compatible Xbox and Xbox 360 titles.
In November of 2005, an updated version of Xbox Live launched alongside the new Xbox 360 videogames console, and this system now includes the Xbox Live Marketplace, where gamers can exchange Microsoft Points (purchased online) for exclusive pre-release playable game demos, trailers, clips, artwork, and other related goodies.
Each week, the Xbox Live Arcade also offers up classic games for download based on a set amount of redeemable Microsoft Points. And Live players are also able to chat freely via headsets and even enjoy the interactive advantages of the Xbox Live Vision camera.
Xbox Live is currently available across 34 countries and has recently surpassed the 6-million subscribers yardstick.
