The PlayStation Portable (PSP) exists as Sony's first entry into the handheld market, which is traditionally an area where Nintendo has dominated without fail. Originally unveiled at Sony's press conference during 2004's E3 exhibition in Los Angeles, the PSP was then released in Japan on 12 December 2004, North America on 24 March 2005, and Europe and Australia on 1 September 2005.
Features on the PSP that make it a stand-out product are its notable 4.3 inch 16:9 ratio LCD screen (480x272 pixel resolution), Infrastructure and Ad-hoc wireless multiplayer capacity, USB 2.0 connection point for music, video, and picture downloads, UMD movie playback format (comparable in price and quality to that of DVD), transferable Memory Stick Duo (in various MB sizes), its undeniably high graphical performance (similar to that of the PlayStation 2) and it superior sleek design.
As of March 2006, Sony has sold more than 17 million units of the PlayStation Portable. Click here to learn more about the PlayStation Portable (PSP).
