The Sony PlayStation first launched in Japan on 3 December 1994, and was followed in the US and Europe on 9 September 1995 and 29 September 1995 respectively. Sony released a smaller version of the PlayStation in 2000 called the PSOne. Since bursting onto the videogame scene, Sony has sold more than 103 million units of the PlayStation alone and is the undisputed market leader in home console hardware.
