Sony's PlayStation 3 videogame console is due for release in Japan on 11 November 2006, and the rest of the world on 17 November 2006. It will support an advanced Blu-ray drive for movie playback and also a revolutionary Cell processor for increased next-generation performance.
Sony will finally implement a rival online service through the PlayStation 3 with which to challenge the relative dominance presently held by Xbox Live. The PlayStation 3 will compete directly beside Microsoft's already established Xbox 360 and Nintendo's eagerly awaited Wii.
