It's gettin' hot in here... (again)
If you thought that Microsoft’s Xbox 360-related overheating woes were nearing an end, think again. The Redmond-based software firm has this week announced that it is recalling its wireless steering wheel peripherals after revealing that the device is suffering from malfunctions.
Microsoft has admitted that there has been a "very small number of incidents" in which a component in the wheel chassis has overheated and spewed smoke when the AC/DC power supply has been used to operate the wheel.
In an attempt to reassure customers (many glad to discover it was only their burning toast that was setting the fire alarm off) Microsoft has stated that there have been "no reported incidences of fire, personal injury or property damage resulting from the component failure in the wheel."
Wireless steering wheel owners are advised to return the product back to where they bought it for a free replacement. While there have been problems with the power supply, you should be safe from scorching yourself if you stick to batteries.
This latest news comes as yet another blow for Microsoft after previously admitting that it was setting aside over a $1 billion USD to cover problems with self-destructing Xbox 360 consoles.
Just promise GamerSquad one thing: don't dunk the steering wheel into water in an attempt to cool it down - especially when it's plugged in.
