Perfectly trained to dodge the real answer to any question. (Credit: patlike) Speaking in a post Tokyo Game Show interview with Next-Gen, Sony's worldwide studios boss, Phil Harrison, admitted surprise at the success of the Nintendo Wii during its first year on sale. Not wanting to give his rival an honest compliment, however, he seemed (like many nay sayers have done) to imply that the machine has the appeal of the latest fad:
"Yeah, I don't remember reading anybody's analysis that called this route two years ago or even a year ago to 18 months ago, but that doesn't mean it's a bad thing," he said. "We work in an entertainment business, basically, and entertainment has elements of fashion, and it has elements of the latest cool thing."
Harrison wasn't about to give Microsoft and its Xbox 360 a hearty pat on the back either, but he did reveal that any expansion of the gaming market opened more opportunities for his own firm and that it was "incredibly empowering because it means that people's minds are more open to new challenges."
Like, let’s say, re-claiming the PlayStation 3's home console gaming crown?
