"Update me, you know you want to!" (Credit: wvs) Good news for PlayStation Portable owners today as Sony has released another updated version of firmware for the handheld, which, amongst other features, boosts the console's support for future PSOne titles set to be released over the PlayStation Network.
New additions also include the option to set the load times for certain PSOne games (those downloaded via the PlayStation 3 to the PSP), although the company has admitted that decreasing the load times too much could cause some games to run with problems. Unless you're really impatient, it might just be best to leave that particular 'fix' alone until it's more efficient, we'd reckon.
A further enhancement included in the latest firmware update (version 3.30) is an increase in the maximum resolution at which the PSP can play video files, whilst also enabling the handheld's video library to display thumbnail versions of your moving images. Lastly, RSS thumbnails have also been made visible.
The new firmware update has only been officially released in Japan at present, but it does include an option to switch the language to English, so if you can't wait until the North American release or you want to pretend to your friends that you can speak Japanese, you can download the necessary file at Sony's website HERE.
Just a quick note to let you know that Sony has revealed the figures for the PlayStation 3's sold across Europe since its release in the region last Friday - 600,000 is the current tally (165,000 of those shifted in the UK alone).
"We are already seeing across Europe out of stock situations where retailers are re-ordering. It was always our strategy to have a good supply. There's never been a launch of a console in Europe that's had a million pieces of hardware sold or available." Sony's Phil Harrison told Game Theory Podcast.
