Now you can watch a movie on the toilet in Starbucks. Brilliant! (Credit: Ehecatzin) Sony has today released a new firmware update for the PlayStation Portable, making way for an upgrade to the portable hardware's remote capabilities. Firmware Version 3.50 allows PSP owners to access their Sony PlayStation 3 content from anywhere in the whole wide world via a wireless Internet connection, a function initiated by last week's Version 1.8 PS3 firmware release.
While (rather obviously) Remote Play does not allow gamers to experience their PS3 titles through the PSP, it does allow them to access and enjoy any media content they have saved on the home console's hard drive, data including video, music, and images.
In addition, an RSS channel guide for those who like to receive their favourite news feeds - *cough* GamerSquad *cough* through Sony's handheld machine has also been made available.
Today's improvements not only add further functionality to the PSP's already-strong media-orientated output, but also give thousands of PS3 owners a reason never to switch their consoles off - just watch out for overheating... and the energy consumption police knocking down your front doors.
