We is LocoRoco Loco!
It’s fairly shocking to think that LocoRoco didn’t get a few more ‘ugly masks’ at last night’s BAFTA Video Game Awards considering its host of nominations—or at least until you consider the competition.
Poor LocoRoco didn’t top the ‘Audio’ category; winner Elektroplankton is obviously more of an audio-oriented game but its sounds aren’t a patch on the quirky wonder of LocoRoco.
It also failed to take the BAFTA for ‘Original Score’, beaten by Eidos Interactive’s Tomb Raider: Legend. Well, okay, fair enough, how can you possibly compete with the musical score of any of the Tomb Raider titles?
It missed out on the ‘Gameplay Award’, ultimately being beaten by LucasArts’ lovable LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy.
Nor did it secure the ‘Casual and Social’ game award; though, let’s face it, it may have the ‘casual’ aspect all sown up, but you become so entranced in the game that it’s not very ‘social’.
LocoRoco also flopped with the ‘Artistic Achievement Award’, which went, quite rightly, to the PlayStation 2’s Shadow of the Colossus.
So, with so many failures, where did LocoRoco win its 2 award? Well, in the category of ‘Children’s Game’ and ‘Game’s Character’. Okay, so we can see that the characters should definitely have won (even though they were up against Lara Croft!), but Children’s Game? Come on, that’s a little belittling in a way, isn’t it? Yes, you can see the kiddie appeal of a game like LocoRoco, but it’s far from a children’s game, surely?
Ah well, at least it won something, eh?
