A quick squint at the internet this morning will reveal a certain amount of excitement over the fact that in an interview on the BBC's Five Live radio show, Will Wright mentioned that Spore is about 6 months from release. Now, we're as keen as anyone to get elbow-deep in the game, but the hype building around Spore is getting insane and let's be frank - it remains to be seen how much game there'll actually be in the game. Wright's earlier creations, such as The Sims and SimCity, both function as terrific insomnia cures and everything we've seen of Spore so far can be ranked under 'mildly interesting' rather than 'heart-pounding'.

So there you go - onion placed firmly in the ointment. We do, of course, reserve the right to gush wildly about Spore if it's half as good as the buzz suggests it will be, or to be unbearably smug when it's revealed to be nothing more than a distraction for a wet weekend.
