Gonna spend a Penny on the upcoming comic book-based title?
Next-Gen.biz is reporting that Ron Gilbert, co-creator of the much-loved point-and-click Monkey Island series, is teaming up with Vancouver-based Hothead Games for the upcoming adventure title based on the Penny Arcade comic books. The game will be made available online in a release of downloadable episodic content, and is entitled "Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness." Catchy.
The Penny Arcade game will feature the popular publication's main characters, Gabe and Tycho, and is being pieced together in an “intense collaborative development process.” The periodic release of Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness will be available for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux, although when that'll happen, nobody knows quite yet.
Gilbert was one of the most inspiring figureheads of the adventure game genre during its heyday in the 1990s, he helped create the first two games in the Monkey Island franchise, which featured the struggles of Guybrish Threepwood on his mission to become the most notorious pirate in the Caribbean. He has also been part of projects such as favourites including Maniac Mansion, Mindbenders, and Zak McKracken.
