Dropped contact lens and BOOM, sizzling summer romance! (Credit: Fox) Codemasters has revealed plans to publish a PC game based on 1980s chick-flick Dirty Dancing.
The movie, which has captured the hearts of womankind and Stevie for the past two decades with its tale of a holidaying teen who falls for a dance instructor, celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, meaning Codies is keen to cash in on fan memories of Patrick Swayze noncing about in leggings, while effortlessly hoisting Jennifer Grey skywards. PC specialist Say Design is in charge of development duties for the game, which is described as an "action-puzzler", and is scheduled for a late-2007 release.
Further details on the project are yet to emerge, though no doubt the stars of the film - including Swayze's stern-but-strapping dance instructor and unbearably drippy woman-child Baby - will be involved in some way. And yes, it does all feel rather cynical to us as well, though we don't doubt this could potentially sell by the shedload.
"The movie appeals to audiences of all ages and continues to win over new fans through increased exposure from the highly successful DVDs and multiple airings on cable," said Anne Parducci, executive vice president of marketing at Lionsgate, the film's distributor. "For two decades, girls and women have identified with Baby, and through this wonderful game from Codemasters, they will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in her world like never before."
Start counting the days, eh?
