Racing towards astounding success, reckons Sega. And they're probably right.
OK, we’ve been sliiiightly creative with that title - in actuality, they said no such thing. But it is true that SEGA has announced it’s expecting big things from Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, namely a cool 4 million sales from both the Wii and DS versions. Is the House of Sonic off its rocker to expect such meaty numbers from its official Olympics title?
Well, possibly not.
See, the Wii and DS combined have now sold pretty close to 60 million units worldwide, meaning only 1 in every 15 Wii/DS owners would have to buy the title for Sega to make its target. OK, our maths may be a touch shaky, but all the other ingredients are in place for a big-seller: Sonic continues to shift units of whatever he appears in (even though much of it is pretty piss-poor nowadays), Mario is a huge draw, and the appeal of the Olympics needs no explaining.
Infact, if anything, we reckon SEGA could be underestimating just what a Fabergé egg of a game it’s sat on. We just can’t figure out why the hell it’s not down for a release when the actual Games themselves start, when interest would surely be sky-high.
