There wasn't much chance that EA and Activision would be allowed to keep the 'band game' genre all to themselves for too long, so it's no surprise to see Disney Interactive come belly-flopping into the music game money-pool. Ultimate Band is coming to the Wii and DS and is, as expected from Disney, skewed towards a younger audience - "kids, tweens and teens" as the press release puts it. You (or your spawn) will be able to play drums, bass, guitar or as the front person. The game won't use instrument shaped periperals, relying instead on the standard Wii or DS controls. We're not quite sure what a microphone-less front person is supposed to do, other than slumping semi-conscious on the stage with a half-empty bottle of vodka while scowling at the lead guitarist, but Disney will most likely have something a little more wholesome in store.
A release date has yet to be annouced but expect Ultimate Band some time near the end of 2008.
