Is there any demographic safe from the pervasive, all-encompassing Nintendo DS software library? Apparently not, as UK developer 505 Games has just announced I Did It Mum!, a game intended exclusively for the little ones - and by that, we’re talking preschoolers.

Offering a "wide range of games, brightly coloured illustration-style graphics, a high level of interaction and parental encouragement", this tot’s title comes in boy and girl flavours, with the boy’s version serving up "toy train" and "drive the car", and the girl edition coming with such delights as "little kitchen", and "colour the animals". Primary socialisation for the win! There’s also an option for Mum or Dad to record an encouraging voice message in the game, which will then play back every time their darling sprog gets something right.

If anything, I Did It Mum! (and incidentally, there’s a title designed to rankle in this age of supposed gender equality) is a telling indication of just how influential and far-reaching Nintendo’s exceptionally successful handheld is becoming. If it’s not aiming itself at women in Japan with games about skincare or beauty-enhancing facial exercises, it’s attempting to grab the parent pound with games for three-year-olds.

I Did It Mum! launches on the Nintendo DS this November for £19.99 ($40 / €30); it’s almost as though there’s some kind of gift-giving holiday planned for that time of year.
