Pik one up soon! (Ho-ho) (Credit: Nintendo Japan)
Pokémon, it would be fair to say, sells big. DS Lite sells big. New DS Lite colours sell - well, you get the idea. So, a custard-yellow, Pikachu-branded, DS Lite in the heart of Tokyo? There will be carnage. We dread to think of the number of shoppers who’ll be mercilessly trampled over in the charge for one of these babies, but rest assured they’ll be appearing on a popular auction site near you for a grotesquely high price in the coming weeks.
Alas, eBay might just be the only option if you want to grab yourself Nintendo’s latest limited edition Lite. Released to commemorate the opening of the newest Pokémon Center in Tokyo (the sixth such venue in Japan) on July 20, would-be owners are required to submit an application for permission to buy one (what? - Ed), and will then be informed by postcard shortly thereafter as to whether or not they’ve qualified for the right to cough up their hard-earned. Madness.
Still, at least the price has a degree of sanity about it; at just ¥16,800 ($138 / £70 / €102), the Pikachu Lite will be the same price as the recently announced Metallic Rose and Gloss Silver versions of Nintendo’s handheld.
