On the DS, a bit mental, nothing like a game... it'll sell millions.
The bonce-honing Brain Training games are just so passé - soon, if Nintendo has its way, we’ll all be training our faces.
What are we disjointedly babbling about now? Why, that would be Nintendo’s new DS game, Otona No DS Kao Training, or Face Training. Costing ¥4,800 ($38 / £19 / €29), this unusual title is due to ship in Japan on 2nd August, along with a tidy digital camera add-on that fits into the GBA slot of the Nintendo DS.
Once both camera and game are in place, users can then see themselves on the touchscreen of the DS, and follow facial exercises that appear on the top screen. Supposedly, these exercises will make your skin more elastic, and help give you a prettier face. Which must be true - after all, it’s not like the cosmetics industry to stretch the truth, right?
The title has been jointly developed by Intelligent Systems (yes, the makers of Advance Wars and Fire Emblem are now making games that revolve around gurning at your DS) and Nintendo, who will be looking to cash in on what is apparently a very Japanese obsession with facial exercise (allegedly, it’s a big thing there).
This may be aimed squarely at women, but we’re still interested to see whether or not that camera add-on gets utilised in the future, not to mention if this is going to get a release in North America or Europe. Because we won’t lie, darlings - Stevie’s just worried to death about his crow’s feet.
