Chalk this one up as yet another reason to envy the jammy people of Japan. Nintendo has confirmed that the DS Lite will soon be available to Japanese consumers in two swish new colours: Metallic Rose and Gloss Silver. The pair will retail for the (frustratingly cheap) price of just ¥16,800 (or $138 / £70 / €100 in real money) when they launch on June 23.
If you want one though, you’ll have to get your importing shoes on – Nintendo has announced that neither of these models will be appearing beyond the shores of its homeland, which has already seen the wildly popular handheld released in Crystal White, Ice Blue, Noble Pink, Jet Black and the striking Enamel Navy. Lucky blighters.
Mind you, how many units will actually be available for import is another matter entirely. After all, it’s well-documented that the Japanese love their DS Lites, with mile-long queues and general pandemonium all part and parcel of the Lite phenomenon. Get those orders in asap, we say.
