A new trailer for the upcoming God of War II has just emerged, spectacularly proving that even in the PS2's twilight era, the ageing console still has the graphical means to impress, even next to today's impressive next-generation offerings.
The teaser trailer of the sequel to 2005's smash hit explains some of the details surrounding the new title (set for a US release in March this year) as well as showing off a variety of action-packed scenes featuring Kratos, God of War's scarred and tattooed protagonist. He is shown smashing through grand architectural structures, wielding a number of weapons, including a hammer and bow, and battling against gigantic, screen-filling enemies - one being a giant statue of colossus that appears in the game’s opening stage.
God of War II's storyline is a continuation from the original game, which followed Kratos on an epic adventure to dethrone a God...of War. However, his reign as God is disturbed when Athena, another deity, suddenly strips him of his powers. The game challenges the player to scour the world in order to regain Kratos’s lost supremacy and power.
The sequel looks to improve on the original in nearly every way, with the promise of more engaging battles as well as the addition of new weaponry and magic. Flying sections are also rumoured, with airborne battles while riding on the back of Pegasus or by the use of the Icarus Wings - a real possibility. Furthermore, the Challenge of Gods mode is said to have had its difficulty ramped up, and, if that isn't enough, the title will ship with a bonus disc full of extras including a video diary of the game's production process.
