Not you again!
Pokemon has been central to Nintendo's continued success in the videogame industry for over a decade now, but a major part of the wealth garnered by the franchise has arrived in the form of merchandise, particularly the massive popularity of the Pokemon Trading Card games. Looking to develop that idea one stage further, Nintendo is soon to release the Pokemon Trading Figure Game in North America.
Taking a leaf out of Beyblade's book, the Pokemon models sculpted by Kaiyodo Co. include a "dynamic spinning mechanism" that will let players send their figures into battle against one another in "an entirely new way."
By that, GamerSquad assumes Nintendo means they'll rotate wildly and bump against one other in a random and haphazard manner.
The two Pokemon TFG starter sets ($14.99 USD) include basic rules, a two-player arena playmat, Trainer cards, and four different figures - including a Trainer figure. So-called Booster packs will cost $3.49 USD for one figure, $6.99 USD for a pair (one of which is a random mystery figure!) or $9.99 USD for three.
"We feel we have created a truly distinctive game that will carry on Pokemon's tradition of excellence," said Tsunekaz Ishihara, president and CEO of The Pokemon Company.
Good for you, Ishihara. Let's now see if the Pokemon-loving public agree.
