Firstly, let me point out that I absolutely love gadgets, I love technology, and obviously I love gaming—but there’s only one thing in the technological realm that truly gives me the techno creeps and it’s robots that walk like humans (pantomime humans--Ed). I’m not sure why they scare me, maybe it’s a Terminator obsession (well I do LOVE those movies), maybe it’s the thought that a robot doesn’t have feelings and that’s bad if one is able to run after you and pummel you into goo. Anyway, I digress, what we have here is Boston Dynamics' Big Dog, the world’s most advanced (that we’re allowed to know about) quadruped robot.
You can check out the video of Big Dog by clicking HERE, as it performs all manner of amazing feats including righting itself after being kicked, running about on various ground conditions, and carrying lots of additional weight. All in all, Big Dog looks like some weirdly creepy ‘push me pull you’ robot thing. Sure, it’s not as creepy as Honda's Asimo, which always looks like a possessed child (see HERE) and creeps me out considerably more, but I’m sure you’ll agree Big Dog is an interesting and somewhat creepy ‘being’. Oh, there I go giving it some sort of sentience—that’s all we need.
