Ubisoft is going a bit 'collaboration crazy' this week. Not only has it announced it's creating new titles based on James Cameron's "Avatar" and NBC's hit television show "Heroes," it has also just announced a partnership with ABC Studios to create a videogame based on Lost - the hugely popular show featuring a group of plane crash survivors stranded on a desert island in the middle of the Pacific.
Players will fall into the sandy shoes of a survivor from the infamous Oceanic Flight 815 to confront their dark past, seek redemption, and eventually find their way home. Ubisoft promises a host of familiar locations and adversaries including the Smoke Monster, interspersed with the need for keen puzzle solving skills and survival know-how.
“Ubisoft is thrilled to be collaborating with ABC to develop this phenomenal television series into an interactive experience,” trumpeted Helene Juguet, US senior director of marketing for Ubisoft.
With bags of potential, let’s hope Ubisoft's obvious talent for quality game design doesn't get 'lost' (ahem) amongst the haze of dollar signs that inevitably tags along with a title backed by a popular license and seemingly easy sales.
Lost will be released for the Sony PlayStation 3, Microsoft Xbox 360 and PC in the first quarter of 2008.
