For under $200, this could be you. Mullet and all.
It’s official: those lucky blighters in the US can now pre-order Rock Band, the Harmonix-developed, multi-instrumental extravaganza that is due to appear later this year on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The game, which will see players warbling into microphones, strumming on plastic guitars, and bashing a too-cool-for-words drum set to a series of rock classics, can now be reserved at both Amazon and GameStop.
Consequently, we now also have a far better idea of how much we’ll be shelling out to play the title. The prices that appear on each site have yet to be confirmed by publisher EA (and GameStop does warn that prices are "subject to change"), but seem to fall into line with what many industry commentators have previously forecasted.
The entire Rock Band bundle, which includes the game, guitar, microphone, and drum set, will retail in the US for $199 (£96 / €144). Handily, you’ll also be able to puchase the game and each instrument separately, with the game costing $60 (£44 / €30), the microphone $30 (£22 / €15), and the drum set $80 (£39 / €58). The pricing of the guitars is a tad strange, mind - the Xbox 360 axe will cost $80, while the PS3 version will set you back just $50 (£25 / €38).
