Rabbid bunnies running from Rayman and the critics?

Rayman Raving Rabbids marks the return of the iconic videogame hero, Rayman, in his funniest and zaniest adventure ever.

When the world of Rayman is threatened by a devastating invasion of crazed, out-of-control bunnies, Rayman must rise up against his furry foes to foil their wicked plans. Utilizing an array of amazing new abilities, and with the help of magical creatures, Rayman must break out all the moves to save his world from these delirious bunnies and their hare-raising antics.

Combat the Ultra-Crazed Evil Rabbits—Take control of Rayman and his knack for attack to help save his world from the raving rabbids. They are mischievous, insane and completely out of control. There are several types of rabbids, each with its own mischievous characteristics.

Tame and control various creatures such as sharks, eagles, rhinos, spiders and angelfish. Rayman can master each animal’s unique capabilities to help in his battle against the devious rabbits. Customize and disguise Rayman. Go punk, pop, rock or hip-hop to infiltrate the bunnies and foil their devious plans.

Explore amazing free-roaming environments and beautiful epic landscapes that mix real and fantastical styles to create a visually stunning experience. [Ubisoft]

And don’t forget to mix in the innovative attraction of the Nintendo Wii’s new Wiimote control system. Flail and fight, whip, pull, and push with the Wiimote and Nunchuk controllers in your bid to rid the world of maniacal bunnies.

So, the Wii is here, Rayman and his fresh control angle are here, but have the high review scores also arrived? Let’s see what the critics had to say about Rayman’s latest outing.

88% - Gaming Target - "[Rayman Raving Rabbids is] a huge demo machine that manages to show gamers what the controller is capable of while providing an entertaining single-player and multiplayer mode."

85% - Game Informer - "This is one of the funniest games ever made, and a fantastic way to teach yourself the controls of the Wii while simultaneously charming friends into understanding why you just spent a few hundred dollars on this new game system."

83 % - IGN - "The experience is still engaging and addictive and the title’s sense of humor is in a league of its own. It is almost unfair to label this effort a Rayman game because the real stars of the project are the bunnies, whose blank faces and inevitable agonized screams will make you laugh over and over again."

80% - GameSpot - "More than just Mario Party with a different mascot, Rayman Raving Rabbids makes great use of the Wii technology to create a bizarrely enjoyable mini-game collection."

77% - GameTrailers - "The games repeat core mechanics too often, many solo games go on too long for good alternating multiplayer, and while it’s safe to say the Wii version is going to be the superior one, it doesn’t lend itself to extended play due to the repetition and possible physical strain."

70% - 1UP - "Aside from the seemingly requisite handful of games that just plain suck—including a particularly painful one that has you slamming shut doors (via a shake of the Nunchuk), which sounds simple, but is infuriating as you attempt to find the sweet spot or figure out why it just doesn’t respond to your commands sometimes—the game’s biggest fault is its surprising shortage of full-on multiplayer games."
