As long as it's not THIS bad...
While Sony PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Xbox 360 owners both have the same Resident Evil 5 to look forward to, Nintendo Wii gamers were known to being treated with an original game in the franchise all to themselves... namely Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles. It was first announced at E3 in 2006 where the developer, Capcom, also revealed that it would take full advantage of the console's motion-sensing controllers to give players a completely new Resident Evil experience.
Further details have emerged today, however, with Japan's most well respected gaming publication, Famitsu, revealing that Umbrella Chronicles will be an on-rails first-person shooter a la The House of the Dead and Time Crisis.
A translation on the consumer electronics site, NEOGAF explains that players will be restricted to a set path, but will be able to use the Nunchuk controller's analogue stick to look around. Of course, the Wii Remote's pointer will be utilised too, as a light gun to blast through the undoubted barrage of un-dead zombies.
The plot will reportedly follow the story of the Umbrella Corporation and its ultimate demise, the game compromising of several scenarios from previous instalments of the series. It aims to fill in some of the gaps in the storyline from past titles and also shed greater light on the activities of Umbrella. Characters likely to feature include Jill Valentine, Rebecca Chambers, Chris Redfield, Billy Coen, and Albert Wesker.
The potential for a proper light gun-esque game on the Wii is certainly an exciting one, we just hope that Umbrella Chronicles doesn't end up like the series' Survivor games, which also employed a first-person perspective... and, frankly, were rubbish.
