Those lucky blighters at C&VG have been playing one of the unreleased new maps for Team Fortress 2 and also revealed a few big changes on the horizon. Each class will feature unlockable weapons that can only be accessed after you've earnt a certain number of achievements. The Medic is first off the block with a new healing ray that can give a buddy a 200% health boost, but is significantly slower in building up an uber charge.
Even more exciting is the introduction of a 'Goldrush' game mode, which sees one team escorting a moving mine cart across a map while the other side does its best to stop it. Sounds a teensy bit reminiscent Enemy Territory's tank escort mission, which can only be a very good thing.
The new maps and game mode are due in about a month. The unlockable weapons will be rolled out a little more slowly, and we'd guess with a lot of post-release tweaking, to avoid any dramatic game imbalance. Suffice to say that the future of TF2 is looking very rosy - almost hot pink, in fact - and we can't wait to get stuck in.
