"Act fresh, excited, overjoyed... but most of all naive and innocent of the concept."
Videogames developers are always copying ideas from one another. It’s happened since the birth of the industry and it's a trend that will continue - that's business - but rarely is it so blatantly obvious as in the case of IN2Games’ REALPLAY series, which was announced today for the PlayStation 2.
Even if it plays well, it's such an unashamed act of hopping on a bandwagon recently established in mainstream gaming that GamerSquad is inclined to feel a little bit of embarrassment for the firm – the type you feel when you know an idea is a complete rip off of someone else’s.
The REALPLAY range is a collection of games, each of which comes packaged with a wireless peripheral of its own. Assuming you buy them all, your living room floor will be soon be cluttered with a plastic pool cue, a tennis racquet, golf club, steering wheel, bowling ball and a 'Puzzlesphere'.
"The REALPLAY range of games is aimed squarely at those PlayStation 2 owners who want to play wireless motion-sensing games without needing to splash out on a new console," said Elliott Myers, CEO of IN2Games. He must mean the Microsoft Xbox 360, right?
IN2Games’ 'revolutionary' concept will be available for the Sony PlayStation 2 this Christmas for £29.99 per set (approximately $50 USD).
Or (in whispered tones) you could just buy a Nintendo Wii instead.
