Ker-ching or Ker-rap?
Playing videogames isn't a very profitable business on the whole (mentally planning what we're likely to spend on software between now and Christmas is a frightening thought), but Kwari hopes that its new first-person shooter will change all that. Kwari (that's the name of the game too) will reward players a stake of between 1 cent and $1 USD per kill and hopes that it will invent professional gaming amongst the masses - as in, doing it as a proper job.
"The game will ultimately be free to download online, but instead of being subscription based it will use a unique free-to-play/pay-to-play model whereby Kwari sells the player ammunition in place of flat rate charges or monthly subscriptions,” the firm explains.
Self-inflicted damage by players (such as falling off ledges) will also be worked into the system. Cause yourself harm and money from your account will be deposited into a daily/weekly/monthly jackpot that one player will win: "As the user base grows, eventually we're aiming for a several-million-dollar jackpot that will go to one player. A Kwari millionaire," says Kwari.
All very ambitious, no? If you fancy in on the gig, check out Kwari's website. The beta testing is due to begin next week.
