Sony to announce 40GB PS3 for UK t...Gobble up a pair of Pac-Man plimso...

We certainly haven't heard as much about Sony PlayStation Portable UMD cases "self destructing" (as Multimedia Recovery puts it) as we have about Nintendo Wii Remote straps snapping or Microsoft Xbox 360 hardware problems, but the firm claims that it has replaced about 70,000 of the flimsy game protectors and urges you to keep yours safe with its product.

Yep, Sony's UMDs are made out of "junk" so Dave says, so if you don't want your PSP games ruined, it's time to invest in Multimedia Recovery's much sturdier alternative. Going by the evidence, it might be a wise investment indeed.

Have you had any major issues with the problem detailed above?

I work for David and Multimedia Recovery. I can assure you that this is a real problem out there. It may not be a problem for all of you "psp fanboys" out there, but a problem non-the-less. We pull in around 5, 000 UMD discs a month from the company Gamefly to be repaired. Of those 5, 000 almost all of them have broken seams or pushed in tops. Now, when you have a broken seam, it doesn't always mean that you can't play a game. But, you can be a risk of causing further damage to the game itself. We provide a solution to replace to this problem and what this comes down to is if you don't need it, then don't buy it. We're not trying to rip anybody off, but if you want to think so then think that way. But to the people that do need these things, or even to repair games for their kids, you scare them from purchasing a product. I see as well that the price is an issue with most of you. The reasoning behind the $3.99 price tag is because of the costs of the molding we have gone through to come up with the final product. Given time and sales, the price can be lowered. Such is the same with any product on the market. If anyone has any other questions, you can email me at: brad.moore@multimediarecovery.com
