Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the videogame store… yet another crushing week of new release mediocrity looms from the murky summer waters and drags you kicking and screaming back into the depths of gaming disappointment.

BioShock really cannot come quick enough, and not just because it looks absolutely pant-wettingly fabulous and actually is worth getting in somewhat of a tizz about, but because it marks the end of 2007’s summer dirge, and exists to bid a (not especially) fond farewell to this year’s dire collection of Hollywood tie-ins.

Once BioShock has hopefully helped to lightened an extraordinarily dark mood, we can look forward to the likes of (deep breath) Halo 3, Assassin’s Creed, Mass Effect, Lair, Super Mario Galaxy, Call of Duty 4, Army of Two, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Medal of Honor: Airborne, Kane & Lynch: Dead Men, Heavenly Sword, Rock Band, Guitar Hero 3, Stranglehold, Blacksite: Area 51, Two Worlds, and many, many others. What’s more, all of the above will be arriving to tease and tempt our pockets before the close of the year.

Where we’ll get the cash for all that, we simply don’t know… Andrew, dust off your leather miniskirt and spandex boob tube, it’s time to work the streets for daddy’s habit again.



However, as Harry Potter, The Transformers, Shrek et al saunter off into the distance, all this week can muster by way of gaming highlights are Boogie on the Nintendo Wii, three separate iterations of Mega Man on the Nintendo DS, Crazy Taxi: Fare Wars on the PSP, and Attack on Pearl Harbor on the PC.
