Nintendo lawyers, look away now. (Credit: Gionee) Even if mobile phone gaming has never truly floated your boat, this little gizmo may pique your curiosity. Fresh out of Hong Kong, the Gionee S20 not only performs the usual cellphone duties, but doubles up as an emulator with the ability to play NES ROMs, and even comes with the tried-and-trusted NES button layout to make things as intuitive as possible.
And if you ask us, that last bit is especially important, as it means we’d avoid the usual hassle associated with cellphone games, when our podgy fingers get the tiny, hard-to-press ‘5’ and ‘8’ buttons mixed up for the umpteenth time. A more than respectable 2 mega-pixel camera and a TV-out port that lets you play on a big screen is the icing on the portable cake.
Still, the S20 is a device riddled with issues of legality (it’s hard to imagine Nintendo would have any sensible reason to green-light such a product), while appearances of such devices in the west are about as common as sympathy cards to Paris Hilton. One for the wishlist, then.
