For the record, we'd happily trade our nearest and dearest for this.
The Metal Gear franchise, as this fine blog has already documented, turned twenty earlier this month. Sadly, it probably won’t live to see twenty-one, after creator Hideo Kojima announced that Metal Gear Solid 4 (and now, we presume, Metal Gear Solid Online) would signal the end of Snake’s illustrious career in the industry.
But those udders haven’t been completely milked dry yet, oh no. After all, Konami recently released the Metal Gear 20th Anniversary Collection in Japan, which you can see above.
Retailing for ¥6,250 ($53 / £26 / €39), this quite splendid package contains the original Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake, Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops and DVDs Metal Gear Saga and The Document of Metal Gear Solid 2. "Bargain" is a shamefully overused word, but it applies here.
And now, the potentially exciting bit: this first-rate collection could - we repeat, could - be seeing a US release, according to hints dropped by Konami reps at Comic Con International, the annual comic book convention that’s held in San Diego. Chatting to US blog Kotaku, marketing VP Anthony Kraus revealed that Konami USA was "considering" bringing over the collection, and that any such release would involve a "very similar" package. It's far from a confirmation of course, but our pulses are already racing at the prospect.
