But is it a Gears of War beater?
Bungie just threw up a spanking new, pristine screen taken from Halo 3’s single-player campaign, and Christonabike does it look wonderful. Yes, yes, we’d normally steer clear of posting articles about what is ultimately just one screenshot, but let’s not forget: this is comfortably one of 2007’s most keenly anticipated titles.
The single in-game shot (which we'd urge you to see in its full 720p glory here) features protagonist Master Chief looking resplendent in his Spartan armour, and wielding the now-iconic MA5C Assault Rifle. In the background, clouds roll over misty mountain ranges and green valleys, and you half expect our favourite violent cyborg to break into a recital of The Sound of Music. But he doesn't. Instead, he just stands there, looking all mean and stuff. Oh yeah.
Anyway, this should go some way to silencing concerns over Halo 3’s visuals. Since the welcome mat was first laid down for the world and its dog to try out the multiplayer beta of the game, there’s been much talk about how Halo 3 wasn’t a graphical knockout. We suppose this lone screenshot is Bungie’s own way of reassuring us that the single-player campaign is going to look utterly excellent. Hurry up, September 25!
