Here’s hoping the mouse makes those s-l-o-o-o-w turns a little more brisk.
It’s one of the industry’s most poorly concealed secrets, and now a leaked video has confirmed what every half-clued-up gamer suspected all along: Epic Games is developing a PC port of Xbox 360 mega-hit Gears of War.
Gears originally arrived on Microsoft’s home console to great fanfare last November, and swiftly set about curb-stomping records, becoming the most-played game on Xbox Live, and the best-selling Xbox 360 title to boot. Indeed, in spite of our own early misgivings, Epic’s third-person shooter also got a warm reception from critics, who were quick to laud the game’s stunning visuals and tactical gameplay. Riding a tidal wave of praise, the title scooped a multitude of end-of-year awards.
Since its release, rumours of Gears of War appearing on the PC have been rife, with Epic chief Mark Rein even admitting that a Windows port would come "eventually". There was, in other words, an inevitability about it all, and the recently exposed video of Gears running on the PC - which was originally posted at and then pulled from GameVideos.com - is now doing the rounds on YouTube and Google Video. In the clip, new bosses and new maps can be spotted, as well as the presence of Achievements.
Had the video not been leaked, it’s likely that PC Gears would have been announced next Tuesday, at Microsoft’s E3 press conference. We suspect there may be some rolling of heads over this.
