Xbox 360 owners miss out on new Gears content. Gutting.
Epic Games' Mark Rein has been explaining to CVG why it is "very unlikely" that the PC-exclusive content in Gears of War will probably never be released for the original Microsoft Xbox 360 version of the hugely popular sci-fi action game.
"It's very unlikely because the two code bases aren't compatible", Rein outlined. "To do that, we would have to patch the 360 version and the size of the patch would probably dwarf all five updates we've done so far. It's just too much work. I can't see it happening... It's not impossible, it's just unlikely."
Rein sympathised with Xbox 360 gamers who are less than pleased about missing out on new content developed for the third-person shooter, before he reiterated just how much work would have to go into porting the fresh gameplay elements over (they total three multiplayer maps, a new multiplayer game type and new campaign chapters).
Sorry to rub it in, Xbox 360 owners. "It's just a very, very hard job to do that and I don't think we'll be doing that," he added.
On the question of whether there'd be any new content at all for Xbox 360 Gears of War owners in future, Rein concluded by saying: "I don't know, we don't plan that far ahead, right?"
As is often the case in videogame land, it's time to cross those twitching fingers and send threatening e-mails to the developer in question. No, actually… don’t do that.
