'E3 Expo' is dead, long live 'E for All' (Credit: About.com) E3 is dead... at least when viewed as a gigantic free-for-all consumer trade show… leaving behind only a scaled back and focused invitation-only E3 Media & Business Summit (yawn).
However, in January of this year, the IDG World Expo revealed that the ESA (Entertainment Software Association) had endorsed a brand new consumer-oriented successor to the E3 Expo, cannily entitled "Entertainment for All" or "E for All" (or E4 as some are calling it). The new consumer event will be held from October 18 through to October 20, 2007 at the Los Angeles Convention Center – the previous haunt of all things E3.
The appearance of Entertainment for All will allow participating publishers, developers, and other product companies to showcase and sell their holiday releases to the trade show’s feverish attendees while granting full access to anyone who wants to wander in and see what all the fuss is about.
Getting in to the event – while a little easier than the press and industry representative-heavy E3 of old – will see attendees hit with an entrance fee of between $50 to $110 USD depending on coverage desire.
And, with pretty much all the major gaming releases set to hit retail in the final quarter of the year (read: Halo 3, GTA IV, Assassin’s Creed, Super Mario Galaxy, etc), the timely arrival of E for All will provide a last gasp platform for PR folks to boost the exposure of their products.
Unsure about whether you should make the trip to LA for the event? Not clear on what you’ll find? Interested in hearing the opinions of industry execs about the emergence of E3 reborn?
