Manhunt 2: eyeing up its U.S. release?
Just when you thought the saga concerning the release of Manhunt 2 was finally over (in North America at least, where it has now been awarded an M for Mature rating by the ESRB), the Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood (CCFC) has taken another dig at the controversial title following last week's revised rating decision.
The organisation states that it is extremely concerned about the ESRB's downgraded rating for Manhunt 2, moving it from an Adults Only (AO) to Mature (M), and reckons that, despite industry claims, the game will continue to be sold and marketed to children under the age of seventeen:
"The ESRB’s reversal of its earlier decision dramatically increases the likelihood that Manhunt 2 – the most violent game to date produced for the interactive Nintendo Wii platform – will be marketed and sold to children."
Pfft. Come on now CCFC, how foolish would Rockstar and Take-Two have to be to market Manhunt 2 directly to minors? It just wouldn't happen. And if the title is bought and played by someone underage, then surely it should be the store that sold the software (not its developer and publisher) that is subsequently punished.
Manhunt 2 has received its M for Mature rating after an altered version of the game was submitted to the ESRB for a fresh rating evaluation. The controversial title will be released on October 31 in North America, although final decisions regarding its fate in other regions remain unclear.
