It’s awkward to control and glitchy. But what do we know, eh?
Reviewers can throw all the mediocre grades and scornful commentary they like at PlayStation 3 exlusive and critical flop Lair, because Sony still won’t give a toss. That’s according to SCEA PR boss Dave Karraker, who told Next-gen.biz that it’s the views of consumers that matter most.
"At the end of the day, I'll be interested in the consumers' response, because the consumer awareness for this title was so huge," insisted Karraker. "I've spoken to any number of people who really like it, and there's other people that find it a challenge. What really matters is whether or not the consumers are having a good experience, because they'll tell us on the [PlayStation] blog."
Karraker’s rant follows an amusing (for all the wrong reasons) outburst yesterday from Factor 5’s Julian Eggebrecht, who blamed Lair’s poor reception on evil, ne’er-do-good critics, and also discussed how development of the title was "cursed". Hmm, riiight.
Still, Karraker almost certainly has a point about the views of consumers carrying more weight. After all, it’s the bottom line that matters in this business, and a swift glance at the sales charts more often than not tells us that critical praise isn’t a prerequisite for good sales.
Kinda depressing, but true.
