It's 'tekken' a while, but number six is on its way!
Namco has today launched the official website for the sixth outing in its hugely successful Tekken series. The site offers up a whole load of arcade screenshots, a high-octane and action-packed trailer for the upcoming PlayStation 3 title and the introduction of two brand new characters: Zafina and Leo.
Both the screenshots and trailer demonstrate just how far Tekken 6 has come since the decidedly rusty-looking version of the game that was exhibited at E3 last year. Amongst a constant flurry of aggressive shouting and grunting from the fighters, the three-minute clip shows off some of the game's detailed locations by slowing the pace down and panning across them. A selection of urban and rural environments are shown in gorgeous layers of next-generation detail.
In addition, a short section of the clip cuts to a couple of seconds of the title in its development stages. An intelligent-looking gentleman is filmed sitting at his desk while he looks to be analysing the movement fluidity of some of the character models while checking that their 'polygonal construction' is in tip-top condition.
Two wallpapers are available for download, one emblazoned with Zafina and the other with Leo, presumably to remind anyone who downloads them in a sneakily subliminal fashion that Tekken 6 is on its way. 2005's Tekken 5 was awarded rave reviews on its arrival, so naturally expectation is high for the next edition of the franchise.
The grapevine currently suggests that Tekken 6 could hit arcades by the end of this year, while PS3 owners will have to wait until 2008. The title is set to be a PlayStation 3 exclusive, although rumours circulating throughout January have spiced things up a little by claiming that Tekken 6 would also be heading to Microsoft's Xbox 360.
