"No more expansions? Aww... Mommy!"
Bethesda Softworks, the developer behind the massively successful The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion for the Xbox 360, PC and PlayStation 3 has told Next-Gen that Shivering Isles could well be the first and last full expansion pack released for the hit title.
Todd Howard, executive producer at Bethesda, said: "Shivering Isles is the only expansion pack we have planned," explaining that the majority of future effort would be centred on the upcoming Fallout 3. "That's the thing we want to focus on right now, so I think I'd be surprised if we do another expansion", he added.
When questioned about possibly letting other development studios take over the reigns of Oblivion to produce more additional content, Howard played down the suggestion, commenting that Bethesda were "really getting into the stuff we're doing with Elder Scrolls and Fallout and I guess we're shy about having someone else start making content."
Recently, a serious bug was discovered in both Xbox 360 and PC versions of the Shivering Isles expansion pack. The game-ruining error initiatese a ticking time bomb as soon as the adventure begins and is reportedly linked to 'internal space' being overpopulated by the Form IDs of non-playable characters. Even if you don't understand that, the fact that the game will be rendered unplayable after about 50 to 120 hours due to mysteriously disappearing items, will certainly help the message ring clear.
Owners of the PC version can download an official fix for the bug HERE. However, despite reports of the same fault in the Xbox 360 version, Bethesda has not been able to replicate it in their testing and has thus far not released any patches addressing the problem on the home console version of Oblivion.
